Western Balkans Rankings on the 2014 Legatum Prosperity Index

According to their website, the Legatum Prosperity Index is an annual ranking, developed by the Legatum Institute, of 142 countries.  The Index is unique in defining prosperity as a combination of wealth and wellbeing.

 

The Index is divided into eight sub-indexes, which measure social capital, personal freedom, safety and security, health, education, governance, entrepreneurship and opportunity, and economy.  In 2014, the best overall ranked country in the world is Nederlands, followed by Switzerland in second place, New Zealand (3rd), Denmark (4th), and Canada (5th).

Best ranked country of Western Balkans (former Yugoslavia) is Slovenia (24th), followed by Croatia (50th), Montenegro (65th), Macedonia (69th), Serbia (77th), Bosnia and Herzegovina (91st).
